ISSUES AND CHALLENGES INPHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

These are problems or obstacles that make it hard to teach and practice PHE effectively in schools.

  1. Inadequate Facilities: Many schools don’t have sports fields, gym equipment, or changing rooms.

  2. Poor Funding: PHE is not often prioritized in budgets, leading to lack of materials and uniforms.

  3. Overcrowded Classrooms: Too many students make it hard to supervise physical activities.

  4. Parental & Societal Attitudes: Some parents think sports are a waste of time or only for boys.

  5. Limited Time on Timetable: Schools may give PHE just one period per week, which is not enough for practice.

  6. Lack of Qualified Teachers: Some schools assign teachers without proper PHE training.

Possible Solutions

  1. Government and PTA funding for school sports

  2. Training and hiring of certified PHE teachers

  3. Organizing school and inter-school competitions

  4. Educating the public on benefits of PHE

  5. Incorporating PHE in school examinations to give it more importance
