BOILING

Boiling is when a liquid is heated to a certain temperature, causing it to turn into gas



Boiling (using kinetic theory)


  • Particles in a liquid move at different speeds.

  • When heat is added, particles move faster.

  • At the boiling point, particles get enough energy to break free.

  • Bubbles form in the liquid and rise to the surface.

  • Boiling happens throughout the whole liquid.

  • The fast-moving particles turn into gas.



EVAPORATION

Evaporation is when liquid particles at the surface gain enough energy to escape into the air, turning into gas.



Evaporation (using kinetic theory)


  1. Only the fastest particles at the surface escape.

  2. Evaporation can happen at any temperature.

  3. Fast particles break free from the liquid and go into the air.

  4. Evaporation happens slowly, just on the surface.

  5. The remaining liquid becomes cooler as slower particles are left behind.

  6. Evaporation continues as long as some particles can escape.
